Macintosh SE: My first compact!
Posted by: agg23 on 2009-09-21 19:13:01
I finally got my first compact Mac today, a SE Dual Floppy  . It came in a SE box, to my surprise, though unfortunately it is a SE SuperDrive box not a regular SE box. The box has all of the original packaging and is in fairly nice condition. The SE is in great condition, the only problems are a tiny bit of yellowing on the side (less than I expected) and there were velcro strips attached to the top (I guess to hold a external HD?). It also came with a mouse. When I started it up, I was surprise to find 4MB RAM inside :O

I upload pics when i can find my camera :🙂

I think this isn't bad for $25.61 including shipping. What do you think?

Very good price. The velco strips could have been for one of those screens that keep people from seeing what you are typing (or for a paper holder that mounts on the side of the case).

OK

Any suggestions of what apps to get?

Well aparently it is a dual-floppy SE box, though it is not the box that goes with my SE 🙁

I also found out that it has a good PRAM battery in it :O

P.S. Is there a version of After Dark that will run on a floppy in the SE? Is it free?

P.S.S. Is it possible to boot off a Jaz Disk or a least use it without drivers?

Thanks,

How do I take my SE apart? I know where the screws are, and I have the right bit, but I can't get to the bottom screws. Is there any common tool that I can use to open it?

Thanks,

The 2 black ones in the back (visible) and the 2 silver ones deep in the handle are all you need to split the case open.

I know. Is there any easy way to get to the screws beneath the handle? I have the Torx bit, I just don't have something long enough to reach down there.

Edit: I finally got it open and it isn't as dusty as I thought. I'll have to be careful cleaning though, 10,000 volts going though my body doesn't sound pleasant for me or my SE.
