I have one I can pull out of a dead floppy disk, but how the heck do you get the head off the dead disk?

One of my Norton Utilities disks in a set I got recently has a missing ( :-x ) metal disk head. I don't know what you are talking about, the spindle or the sliding sleeve?
| Posted by: MacJunky on 2009-09-20 00:33:39 The metal slidy cover is a annoying to remove then put on properly. I would suggest just leaving it and putting the disk in a hard case and being super careful with it in the future.
Alternatively, if you have a failed floppy with a plastic cover, those are easy to get off and on without any negative effects. You could easily use a plastic one, if you can find a donor.
As for removing them.. uh, can I get back to you in a bit? It has been a while. 😛
*Edit
I am going to get a vid of it, just give me a bit.

There is probably a better way to do it.. but meh, it comes off and goes on with no damage. Also of note is that when I go at it with the screwdriver the second time I am pushing the side you can see up to help clear the plastic because there is a little tab in a slot there. I am not just ripping straight it off. When putting it back on the twitching of my hands is just an unavoidable effect of.. me or something. It is actually not much force on the floppy, my muscles just twitch during extreme exertion or when trying to regulate a lesser level of force(even a significantly lesser one). I do not know if that is normal or not. >_>
Anyway, you get the idea or at least someone can suggest tweaks to the approach for higher efficiency.
| Posted by: JRL on 2009-09-20 18:01:18 Alright, I got the head off of the dead disk.
I can put on the head like you did, but the head doesn't move easily at all. xx(
Does this mean something is wrong with the disk head itself?
