Liberation . . . gift . . . or . . .
Posted by: Trash80toHP_Mini on 2009-08-17 19:22:10
. . . recoupment? I'm not sure what to call my latest . . . re-acquisition!

When I was in Philly, my (very wonderful) ex-wife brought down a few boxes of goodies. My Bell & Howell Slide Projector along with a metric crapload of its cubes and slide boxes filled with Kodachromes taken over some 25 years with my battery-free manual camera/lens collection. She also gifted me with the remainder of the rug-rat's MacMediaCenter!

The Performa 6290 CD, which replaced the Quadra 630 that was the first new (as in current and not remaindered) Mac I'd ever bought for myself and still retain!

The Apple Extended Keyboard II and ADB Mouse II that replaced the PS2 KBD/Mouse combo on the MiniView KVM I'd already snagged. The rug-rat's 486 Class Mid-Tower (POS) internet box (dialup AmericOffline at the time) became redundant upon his purchase of a 15” PowerBook for college.

The FirstGen Apple TV Tuner System (I bought it along with the Q630) w/the original credit card sized remote that I'll have to ask her to find and foreward to me.

The PowerKey that booted the entire Mac/Wintel system at the touch of the ADB startup key on the MiniView KVM/Mac Converter Box and then shut down both systems from the Mac.

The 17” Sony Trinitron, that was the envy of all his WinTel afflicted friends at first sight. It absolutely blew them away when they saw how he watched TV from his bed using the credit card remote. I'd also run co-ax to his system so that he got full access to the cable box and VCR in our bedroom. Seeing him running the whole setup with a CrapShack remote control repeater, their mouths just hung open in shock at what this, by then a VERY dated Q630, setup could do as compared to their fancy new WinTel rigs! It was also the Monitor/CPU that I'd use for work after the munchkin fell asleep!

The rug-rat also gifted me with the refurb AppleDesign Powered Speakers we'd given to him for some occasion or other.

It was a very nice haul under any other circumstances, but in this case, it is very special to me. Because, even the thought of setting it up causes my eyes to water up at all the memories/emotions that this system evokes in me.

Anyways, I thought I'd share whatever you'd call this windfall (?) with all of you here at the barracks.

Jt: misting up a bit ATM . . . :'(

Very nice. 🙂 Its always really nice to have a machine like that, that you have such fond memories of, come full-circle and be gifted to you. 🙂

Well, I finally got the last piece of this liberation/gift, the original Credit Card Remote Control from the first production batch of Quadra 630 TV-Tuner Cards!

I'll be using this one with the ProjectorPlotterServer™ Hack!

Very nice, I've actually never seen one of those Apple credit card-sized remotes "in the wild" before.

Now that's slick! Surprised it had no rainbow Apple!

Hrmmmm? I wonder if this was the very first Monochrome Apple Logo? I know it was done in order to use just one color during the "overlay" print run and not done intentionally, but it does pique my curiosity!

Nice observation there, comrade kiddo! 😉

That is awesome! I love how the remote looks basically the same as the newer ones.

Yes very good stuff there. I'm jealous a bit. When I bought my tv tuner system for my Q630 back in college I got the slim line Sony version with mine.

Is that the SAME remote control as the the credit card controller for the MacTV??? My MacTV works with the slim line Sony one though. For 20 bucks at Ohio Thrift Store I wasn't going to complain it didn't have the remote 🙂

 I wouldn't complain at that price either! I've never actually seen a MacTV or its remote, so I've got no idea! Does the MacTV have a monochrome or Rainbow Logo?

After running upstairs to the spare room to check. The Macintosh TV has the rainbow logo on it right in the center below the monitor.

The stupid part was that Apple used a beige CDROM drive face in this machine so everything is nice and black EXCEPT that smidgen of beige showing through.

Can't bring myself to disturb the original setup, but it would look much better with a black drive face in there that's for sure.
