LC III refusing 7.1
Posted by: Gil on 2009-08-06 13:34:46
After my LC III sat unused for a few months, which had/has bad caps. So I removed the ROM's and washed the board. I probably screwed something up by putting the ROM's in the wrong way ( 8-o ), but the computer worked after I corrected the problem. Now, I tried to install System 7.1, but when I boot to the installer disk, it says "System 7.1 does not work on this model; you need a newer version that does." HOWEVER, it happily boots to the System 7.1 Disk Tools disk. I booted my LC 575 from the installer disk, and it boots fine, so there's nothing wrong with the disk.

Could I have mucked something up when I put the ROM's in the wrong way? xx(

To run 7.1 on an LC III you need a system enabler that's probably not on the installer disk but *is* on the disk tools disk.

Darn, I didn't think of that. It worked! Although I don't remember having to use an enabler in the past. :-/
