| RAM! |
Posted by: LCGuy on 2009-08-04 17:48:13 After a bit of a fight between me and another bidder, I picked up this on eBay last night. I'm hoping they're 64MB sticks...if so Christmas has come early, and my Performa 5260, LC475 and LC630 DOS Compatible will all be getting some nice upgrades...but if not thats cool - I can always use 72 pin SIMMs that are bigger than 8MB.

Posted by: LCGuy on 2009-08-11 19:29:00 I got them today...they have 4 NEC 4218160-60 chips on them each. From what I can gather, I think they're 8 MB SIMMs. Great. I seem to be like a magnet for these things, it seems. :-/
Note to self: No more buying "as is" RAM on eBay.

Posted by: JRL on 2009-08-11 19:34:44 Dang, really sorry about that. D:
Good thing they're not hard to find at all.

Posted by: LCGuy on 2009-08-11 19:36:25 The trouble with that though is that I've already got a metric crapload of 8MB 72 pin SIMMs that I'll never use, and that I can't see of being much value to anyone else, either.
Now, if they were 30 pin SIMMs...that'd be different. But they're not. 😛

Posted by: Temetka on 2009-08-12 01:38:22 Did they even make 8MB 30pin SIMM's?
That would have been an ungodly amount per stick back in the day.
Not too mention very expensive.
I once paid $300 for a 4MB stick.

Posted by: LCGuy on 2009-08-12 02:28:26 I assume they would have, as they made 16MB 30 pin SIMMs.

Posted by: equill on 2009-08-12 03:15:47 Most Macs could not handle 8MB 30-pin SIMMs. The path for most, with a few notable exceptions, was 256kB, 1MB, 4MB, 16MB. That is, fourfold increments. Some left off one end or other of that progression, but could use 2MB (Classic II) or 8MB (IIci). 8MB seemingly appealed little to Apple engineers.
