Hey everyone! Just got my eMac 700. It was a teachers and had a trillion stickers. I haven't powered it up, but dang this thing is heavy!!!

I might put OS 9 on it :beige:

I'll put pics on in a sec. I worked on this machine during the school year and it has a wonky CRT that dims. Hope I can fix it.

Hopefully you don't have as many problems w/ your eMac as I do w/ mine.

My eMac is "special".

Here is the ritual of getting it started up:

1. Cross fingers and press power button, hoping it doesn't explode.

2. When it kernel panics, restart and hold down Apple-Option-O-F

3. type "reset-nvram"

4. type "reset-all" and hold down Apple-Option-P-R as it starts up, and wait till it bongs about 5 times

5. If it kernel panics, repeat 1-4 until it turns on. If, after 20 minutes, you haven't managed to get it to work, dig out the OS X Installer Disks, and nuke the harddrive

6. By now it should turn on.

:🙂

Check the video cable connector, I've heard just insulating it with electrical tape can fix alot of bs depending on what is up with yours. (google a bunch, dont dye on crt, etc...)

It had 10.4 and I wiped it because it had a bunch of teacher crap.

I plan to put 9 on one partition and 10.5 on the other.

I've restarted the Machine a few times, and the CRT is now Brilliant and Perfect.

So yeah.

OK So I have a small problem installing 9.

OS9 takes a while to boot.

is the disk scratched?

try copying it and booting from that

OS9 takes a while to boot.
No it doesn't. Booting any OS from a CD usually takes a lot longer than booting from a hard drive.

Have you tried booting an OS X Live CD? 😀

I got 9 installed. And DAMN it flys.

Hee-hee, yeah, OS 9 is a performance monster on my G4/500DP 😀

Well I ripped it to shreds. I installed a DVD Burner and an Airport Card, and its a freaking monster to open. My hands got all cut up. So while there I examined the video cable. It seems fine, and I disconnected it and put it back in, and it seems dandy now... Very strange.
