Greetings, long time listener, first time caller here. Well, I've been lurking for several months now and I finally have a compelling reason to register and post. I've been a Mac user since '96 having used Apple IIgs' and Macs on occasion prior to that. I do a lot of programming (Classic Mac using MPW...I won't let it die!), graphics, animation, sound editing, video editing, etc. Thirteen years later I am now up to seven Apple computers:
Apple IIgs (Woz edition)
Performa 6116CD
Blue & White PowerMac G3 (Rev 2)
Clamshell iBook 366 (Firewire)
12" G4 PowerBook
iMac 24" (2006 Intel)
and my latest acquisition...
Macintosh Classic! (2MB RAM, 40 MB HD)
I've never owned a 68K Mac so this should be fun. I understand that it's slow (and it is) and that I will probably never do anything useful with it, but it now has a good home. The screen is a little wobbly (read somewhere that that's a power-suppy issue) and the battery is dead but the little guy works! It was pretty dirty. I spent the evening with lots of cotton swabs and alcohol and now it's not too bad, if a bit yellow. My house is starting to become a Mac museum... :lol:

Don't believe everything you read on the internet - the Classic is awesome, no matter what anyone says. Make sure you're using system 6 and not 7 for a speedy and enjoyable experience.

Sweet! I just got into the 68k Desktops as of yesterday. I have a patched-together Quadra 840AV sitting behind me running 8.1. Not sure what I plan to do with it, but I will think of something.

Thanks everyone! I saved the Mac from certain death. I work for an archaeological company and we were doing some work at a farmstead. The owners were moving out at the time and were gone by the time we made a few subsequent trips to the property. They had been bought out by a coal company and took what they wanted and left the rest: mostly old books and junk. Well, we were evaluating the house for historic preservation and my boss walks into a room and was like "What kind of computer is *that*?!". My heart skipped a beat because I knew only a Macinstosh would get a reaction like that. I peeked in and saw it sitting in the corner of the room along with a bunch of other junk scattered around the floor. I knew I had to save it. This coal company had already dozed two other farmsteads before we were able to do our work on those properties so I knew this one didn't have long since we were already close to finishing up. Anyway, I thought it deserved a better fate than to be buried in a pile of rubble. 🙂
