Two Apple II-related items found today!
Posted by: Huxley on 2009-07-01 17:20:17
While I was out running errands today, I stopped into a Goodwill store that I don't usually visit (it's all the way across town from my usual routine), but this visit paid off with two cool finds:

First, I snagged an "Apple 3.5 Drive" in very good (physical) condition. I believe this is one of the drives that could be used with either an Apple IIGS or an early Macintosh - in fact, this one actually has a Y-cable attached to the main (non-removable) cable that splits it into a floppy-port plug and a joystick plug. Not a bad find, and for only $2.99 I couldn't go wrong!

Second, and perhaps cooler, I grabbed a boxed copy of Clairis AppleWorks 3.0 for the Apple II/IIGS. The kicker for this one is that it's still sealed and is totally new and unopened! The copyright date on the back of the box is 1989, so this thing has been sitting in someone's garage or closed for 20 years without ever having been opened or used - pretty cool stuff. The fine print on this copy indicates that it contains four 5.25" floppies (for the Apple IIe with 128k RAM or IIc) and two 3.5" floppies for the Apple IIGS.

Fun stuff!

PS I'll be keeping that floppy drive for my IIGS, but if anyone has a burning desire for the new-in-box, sealed copy of Claris AppleWorks, let me know - I'm open to trade offers!

Man I wish our goodwill doesnt suck, I asked one day where the computers were, they said downtown, so I called downtown and "the public is not allowed into that area"

bogus

"the public is not allowed into that area"
Perfect opportunity to become a criminal, and it's for a good cause too.

That Y-cable is either for the LC IIe card (probably so, since it's on the drive) or it's a Power Mac 6100 DOS cable.

Yeah, I think you hit the nail on the head with the LC IIe card thought - it's been so long since I played with one of those, I'd completely forgotten that it could talk to external devices.

Good catch!

They just refuse to take them here...

the thing i dislike the most about goodwill in our area is that they dominate the thrift / second hand store market, theres like 1 junk shop in my town that almost sells computer stuff (loads of atari vcs games if anyone is looking) and thats about it in a 2 hour radius (that i can find)
