AppleVision 1710AV Display
Posted by: tyrannis on 2009-06-30 16:44:24
This AppleVision 1710AV display was intercepted at the local recycler for $10, and it's a real survivor. It has minimal discoloration, a near perfect screen, and it even had the original plastic sleeves on all the cords. I have been looking for a good 1710AV for a long time. I know they are prone to certain issues like a lot of other 68k/early PPC era Apple monitors, but I think it's an excellent design. It will be paired with my 7100/G3 vintage gaming setup, with video from a PrecisionColor Pro 24AC - a better fate than what awaited in the Chinese landfill.

Great score, the AppleVision 1710AV is a fine display, I've had one for about 6 years, and its probably my favourite CRT, though mine only works properly at high resolutions (1024x768 and up).

Oh man... I had that monitor for years until it went *pop* one day and never worked again. It was a BEAST to move around for LAN parties & whatnot, but I LOVED that monitor. I check eBay every now & then to see if anyone is selling one, but I haven't seen one in a looooong time. Nice conquest!

With all the issues they had, even back when they were new, I'd imagine that a working 1710 series display would be rather hard to find nowadays.

It appears I did not find one after all; I misidentified this monitor as a 1710AV when it is in fact a 750AV. Would anyone happen to know what changes, if any, were made between these models? They seem identical in terms of appearance and functionality.

Here is the Apple Displays Software 1.7.1 link for any owners of older Apple monitors that might stumble across this thread in the future.

From memory the 750/750AV fixed a lot of the problems with the 1710/1710AV, and had an updated CRT with a slightly better dot pitch.
