| How the hell do you replace the speakers in a G3 iMac? |
Posted by: John Hokanson Jr. on 2009-06-02 19:00:23 Okay, I'm stumped on this one. I've torn apart my 350Mhz Idigo because I plan on robbing it for parts in case my 500, or another machine I'm hoping to get, goes down (hopefully not). The case is completely disassmbled. However, I'm having a bitch of a time figuring how the speakers are attached. At first glace it seems as if I have to completely remove the CRT from the chasis, and I'm hoping that's not true. Any ideas?

This stuff gets VERY brittle with all the heat it's exposed to (no fan in the slot loads....thanks Steve). Half the plastic in the front internal bezzle practically came apart in my hand. > 🙁
I can understand the external case and the colored parts, but yeesh.

Posted by: waynestewart on 2009-06-03 08:37:38 You don't need to remove the CRT. From the manual
1. Disconnect the short
speaker cable next to the
speaker.
2. Note: If you are certain
a speaker is faulty, the
easiest removal method
is to gently push the
speaker down in the
direction of the arrow.
This will bend the
biggest tab (there are
three tabs) that connects
the speaker to the
divider panel.
3. Twist the speaker back
and forth and slide it off
the divider panel.
The arrows in the pic point to the outside of the computer. Left to left, right to right
