Got it as my birthday present; I love this thing, it's amazing 😀

You can get displays with better response times and contrast ratios that are *much* cheaper. ...that are also cheap TN LCD technology. The Apple panels are S-IPS. The "slower" (from what I understand it's measured differently) response times and "narrower" contrast ratios (also often measured sleazily and reported dishonestly) are made up for in color accuracy, brightness, etc.
| Posted by: bsod on 2009-06-02 01:25:29 Large displays are really great, and the Apple ones have a really nice picture. I am no videophile (I hope this word exists, I was trying to make use of the word audiophile 🙂 ), so I really don't care for response times, viewing angles, and such... but I noticed my new HP display needed a lot of calibration, and still is no match for my iMac's internal display (even with those horrible vertical stripes that plague it! 🙁 ).
| Posted by: MultiFinder on 2009-06-02 07:12:43 Yes, yes, I know there are cheaper displays out there with probably better specs. However, I've always been impressed by nearly any Apple panel when I've seen them, especially when I've seen them next to any other monitor. I'm not sure that viewing angles really count on this thing; even if I'm standing in my doorway staring nearly at the side of the monitor, I can still see clearly what's on the screen with no colour shifting. Same staring down from the top, up from the bottom, and from the other side. I have never had that happen with any other monitor. The colours on this thing are amazing; The purity and richness of them puts any other monitor I've ever used to shame. Even the one I have set up next to it still looks a little off, no matter how long I spend calibrating it. The whites are pure, the backlight is bright (I keep it around 50% so it doesn't blind me 😛 ), and I am absolutely in love with it.
Besides, $300 ain't bad for a high-end 20" LCD, and is great for any monitor with a shiny Apple logo on it 😀
