| 7.6 Installer for Powerbook 3400? |
Posted by: drbones on 2009-04-18 16:11:22 I've been looking around for some information on this, but it's not clear - will a normal 7.6 CD with the 3400 Enabler boot and install on this, or can I only use the media that was included?
Oh, and does anybody have a link to download the 3400 Enabler? I can't seem to find it anywhere...

Posted by: tomlee59 on 2009-04-22 18:56:50 Is there a reason for 7.6.1, as opposed to 8.x? The 3400c is much happier with 8.1 (and better still with 8.6), owing to the diminished need for emulation. Video playback, for example, is much poorer with 7.6.1 than with 8.1, and poorer still than playback with 8.6, on a 3400c.
If you're still in need of 7.6.1, PM me. I might be able to help you locate a suitable version for the 3400c.

→ Torrent link removed. 7.5.3 & 7.5.5 are available legitimately from Apple. ~tl

Posted by: beachycove on 2009-04-23 16:48:11 Good to see a problem solved.
(On my 2400c, which is much the same machine, I find 7.6.1 to be more compatible with some earlier software like MacWrite Pro, and for these purposes as well as the retro-factor it is to be preferred, but 8.6 will indeed run well on a 3400c if you have a decent amount of ram.)

Posted by: drbones on 2009-04-24 01:12:30 yeah, I'm going to be using the machine mostly as a word processor with occasional email, so I'm just after the quickest bootup speed I can get... 7.6 will work great.

Posted by: drbones on 2009-04-26 20:37:09 well the 3400 turned up this morning
just for the record, the Apple Legacy Recovery disc boots up fine, and its 7.6 installer is a custom version that works fine on the 3400, as long as you don't reboot before updating to 7.6.1.
the machine is a 240mhz, 80MB/3GB, and it really does fly under 7.6 - great machine! now I've just gotta find a PRAM battery for it... :-/
