Quadra 700

I am looking at my odd Q700. For whatever reason, I thought the 800 used the same case. Nope. Although there is an 800 proto in a 700 case. So did other models besides the 700 use the same case?

None. It's similar (but not identical) to the IIcx and IIci case.

Okay, good to know. Is there a serial on yours by the way?

Yes, lists a July manufacture date at the Freemont plant.

Well I took apart every IIcx I have. I should do my Q700 next and we can compare notes. Mine was made 2nd week in June. Way early for an October release.

Is this obsessive?? 🙂   There is more, went off edge of display. It actually helps put things in perspective on changes, etc.

Mine has other oddities; it has a Conner hard drive which is accurate for the era, but at 100MB it's not one of the stock sizes. The problem is I don't know if it was originally with it or replaced later, as the machine did see some use as an everyday Mac. Same with the Daystar cache card.

I never bother to look at drives. With failures and replacements/upgrades its hard to tell if they are ever original. I have a Conner drive with Apple markings and a BETA of sys 7 on it. Came in one of my IIcx. Its the only Conor drive I have besides in the portables - where Conor was common.

Interesting thing with this though is that it doesn't have any Conner stickers on it. There's the serial sticker but no branding. Only place it says "Connor Peripherals" is on the bottom circuit board. Just one of those little quirks I guess.

EDIT: We could use someone with a production Q700 to compare things to.

Hmm, I have a production Q700! I guess I could take a look?

What should I look for?
