Captain Magneto - Apple III

Hi,

I used to love Captain Magneto on my 128k Mac and recently discovered that there seems to have been a port of it to the Apple III - unfortuantely I dont have an Apple III or a Mac (on which I can run SARA the Apple III emulator) to check out the Apple III version - I'm really interested to see what the graphics were like on this platform. Did anyone here ever play it on the III? What was it like - was the game play similar to the Mac version? Anyone got any screen shots (or better yet youtube video)?

Wishful thinking perhaps.

Yep, with a flash of inspiration, I found it via... google! I've been able to play it, but loading it on and running it from my Compact Flash faux-Profile (via BOS) ends up with a Pascal stack overflow. At least it runs from floppy.

The graphics make use of programmable character sets - so the creatures are built up of a matrix of characters (maybe 2x4 or 3x6 - I'm not sure now). The screen is 40 columns, and in color. Trees are built up of simple squares (no special rounding anywhere).

Hmm, interesting. Is it playable(ish) like that?

Anyway, thanks for trying it out and posting - wish I still had my Apple III 🙁

Yes, definitely. At one point, I got surrounded by good guys - all busily spouting advice at me (and fighting baddies for me too). Everybody's recognizable as who they are: creatures, weapons, etc.
