Posted by: Scott Baret on 2009-02-27 13:11:39 I know it has 8MB RAM but the seller didn't list a hard drive size. I'd imagine it would be 80MB at a minimum. (If it's a 40MB I could always swap it with my 170's drive).

Posted by: Scott Baret on 2009-02-27 19:35:28 I was lucky to find one that was lower-priced. It actually started at $10 or so but went up big time in its last few hours. I placed my bid with 30 seconds left on the clock, a trick I discovered after losing a MacWrite II auction last year (the auction was actually re-listed a few weeks later and I won it that time; I'm guessing the guy who won it in the first place was a non-payer).
I'm really looking forward to this Mac for the following reasons:
1. Color display.
2. Ability to run System 7 and programs which won't run on newer versions of the OS (original Print Shop is the big one).
3. Coolness factor--the PB 1xx machines look like toys by today's standards yet are still plenty capable.
4. Nostalgia factor--this was the machine I wanted when I was young. This was my dream machine from the time it came out until the iBook was released in 1999. I even wanted this over the PPC-based PowerBooks because I liked the ability to run System 7, although any computer in a bright orange case (my favorite color) is going to win out in the end.
I'm probably going to run Word 5.1 and Excel 4.0 on this one along with MacDraw Pro, Kid Pix, and Print Shop. It will be my non-Claris productivity machine (save for MacDraw Pro; I've had a boxed copy of it sitting around for over a year now and will finally have a machine I want to use it on).
I'm hoping the machine arrives sometime late next week so I have it to play around with over spring break. That should give me enough time to find or repair the battery pack so I can take it to a conference with me.

Posted by: LCGuy on 2009-02-28 20:13:22 Nice score...the 180cs are a beautiful machine, with an excellent display...especially if you can find one in good condition.

Posted by: Scott Baret on 2009-03-02 14:23:54 The PowerBook arrived today!!! Too bad it's right in the middle of midterms week!!!
It has a 160MB hard drive and the 8MB RAM specified earlier. Everything works great plus the seller tossed in a SCSI adaptor and a very nice carrying case, which looks brand new!!! (So does the PB180c).

Posted by: JRL on 2009-03-02 16:05:49 Nice specs (especially for the price). 🙂 I've seen some fully loaded PowerBook 180c's before on eBay, but those ended up costing a lot in the end.

Posted by: LCGuy on 2009-03-02 16:47:10 Very nice...actually the exact same configuration as what I have. 🙂

Posted by: MrMacPlus on 2009-03-02 19:17:46 Nice, hope you have a copy of Photoshop you can install on there (that's what I would use it for) 😉

Posted by: Scott Baret on 2009-03-02 20:44:41 I've actually got Color It, which is pretty close to Photoshop.
Other programs being installed include Word 5.1, Excel 4.0, MacDraw Pro, and Print Shop.
