Some free stuff for helping out
Posted by: Mike Richardson on 2009-01-24 16:12:59
My friend and I helped out a bit at the non-profit computer recycler today unloading a truck. Someone held a drive on their behalf. They expected just a small truck but it was actually a 17' U-Haul filled to capacity. So we helped out a bit and she let us take the Apple stuff, which was a small lot:

ImageWriter II

LC 580

Apple 15" Multi Scan

Power Mac 8500

We actually came to buy an iMac G5 but wound up helping all day.

Not a bad lot...I've always liked the 580s with the shadow mask displays (I'm honestly not a huge fan of the Trinitrons since there's that line that runs through them; I've also found their geometry to become worse than shadow masks over time).

8500 was the first mac I ever bought with my own money. upped the ram to 136mb i think and used it for quite a few years before it slowed due to age. Took 5 min to boot at times, even with a 180mhz 604 in it.
