For once, the overused eBay buzzword "RARE!!!ZOMGLOLBBQ!!!1101!!" is totally justified. And the price, though high, has some level of realism, considering.

Yes, but I'm not sure it's $999.95 worth or rare. Since the auction ended with no bidders, I'm guessing most are in agreement. Perhaps a relative of one of our unmentionable US sellers? LOL
But you are correct, extremely rare, especially with the original packaging.
I remember seeing this in 2010 where Roy Scheider sits on the beach using one. It actually holds up pretty well as a laptop you'd see in 2010, except for the ribbon cable connector. That's clearly 1980's tech. Probably one of the reasons I never became an Apple II person because of all of the inelegant ribbon cables connecting everything.

I presume that Scheider was sitting on a huge battery and inverter buried beneath him. Note also that the IIc LCD works very poorly in bright light according to most user reports.
The IIc LCD has popped up on eBay in the UK a couple of times in recent years. I suspect that, by its nature, the product will be a survivor. It was bought by enthusiasts (rather than companies) so a few will still lurk in attics, unmolested after the novelty wore off.

An Apple IIc LCD popped up on there a while back - cheap - the auction ended early for around $150 I reckon. I wouldn't be surprised if this is the very same one with a highly inflated price this time around.
Yes, rare but not Apple's finest piece of tech by any means!

I honestly don't know if this is worth it except to hardcore collectors. The IIc lcd is really quite horrible to actually use, almost unusable I'd say. If you must have a nice classic lappy, go mess with the Tandy model T's. they are cheaper, more useful, more rugged, etc.

It ended at AUD $664.32. I sure hope the person who bought knew about this item in-depth, otherwise he's in for some real disappointment!
