in due time ill up it to at least 1152 mb if the 1 gig modules are a bit reasonable
not to keen on upgrading the hd 20 gig is plenty and i have been in ibooks before
not in a hurry to repeat all that again

Posted by: slimac55 on 2008-12-31 17:26:17 I had an iBook G3 once. It had that GPU issue and I think I reflowed it for too long. The GPU became permanently damaged (by slowly getting less usable to the state of me being lucky if the display backlight were to come on) so I ended up selling it.

Posted by: bluekatt on 2008-12-31 19:06:41 my 2 ibooks are fine they are the 500 mhz versions and were released before the whole gpu problem became an issue
one of them is ...quirky though
its bak light goes on and off its held together by no more then 10 screws its combo drive lives when it wants to
yet it runs and runs and runs i threw tiger at it and it runs it just fine in only 384 mb ram
the other 500 mhz is in absolute pristine and perfect working condition yet it has 64 mb ram solderd on its motherboard opposed to 128 mb in the other
and thats noticable
..go figure

You could get a hard over 128GB on the 800MHz iBook's? Maybe not from Apple, but you can get suitable drives >200 gigabytes from Western Digital. Kind of a fuss to disassemble an iBook, so may as well do that and maybe upgrade to a Superdrive at the same time.
