I just found a download to this, MacX, can it be used to run select UNIX software on a mac if everything is compiled?

MacX performs as a display terminal. The heavy lifting is performed on the remote (mainly Unix) device, with the graphical output displayed in MacX. Research "X11".

If we're talking about the same thing, MacX is an X server, eg a way for UNIX boxes to display graphics, where the Mac becomes a "remote graphics terminal".

Speaking of aux, porter, would u consider a port of browser6 to aux a trivial thing?

It would run in the Macintosh environment of A/UX with no change.

Rewriting as an UNIX/X11 application would be a completely different kettle of fish, do-able, but whether it's worth it is another matter.
