| iMac Orange |
Posted by: superpantoufle on 2008-12-26 11:53:14 /me 🙂
I had a christmas lunch at my parent's yesterday. They kindly asked me if I was interested in keeping their old iMac (rev. B orange), long retired from duty and waiting in the attic. It never was "my" computer since I left short after they bought it in '98 and I already had my own Mac for a long time, but even though, I was happy to see that this old friend I often troubleshooted back then was still alive.
It came with orange keyboard and mouse, in pristine state, and with the original CD's, case and all.
It has the stock 6 Gb hard drive and 160 Mb of Ram (I remember when they asked me to buy and install the 128 Mb upgrade, by the way). I like to put my collection machines in their original setup when possible, so I partitioned the drive and reinstalled the original System 8.5.1 and bundled software from CD's, and put in a Mac OS X 10.2 on the other partition.
It goes along great with my orange Clamshell iBook on my desk! ;D

Posted by: Sosai X on 2008-12-26 23:55:54 What's the processor speed? I have a 333 Mhz processor that came out of my rev. b Bondi that you can have for free, if you need it. Will give you a bit more zip!

Actually it's a 266MHz, so it certainly would benefit from the "zip". But I have to confess I'm the kind of Mac collector who doesn't use his conquests on a regular basis. I fire them up once in a while to play some game or have fun with them, but I tend to prefer having them in their original "out of the box" configuration when possible. But thanks anyway!

Posted by: slimac55 on 2008-12-27 01:33:39 Nice. There's something about the iMac design that I like. Though I like the slot loaders better than the tray loaders, but tray loaders are still good.

Posted by: MrMacPlus on 2008-12-27 14:43:22 After using an iMac G3 as my main machine from Summer 2007 to Summer 2008 I can no longer look at them with the same affection as the rest of you. For all intents & purposes I'd find it fun to tie mine to the back of a car and see what happens.
edit: never ever seen that written out, go figure

Posted by: Christopher on 2008-12-27 15:01:48 I always found using the colored iMac's a joy because of their fun colors. Working on them? Slightly different story.
