Posted by: Strimkind on 2008-12-18 19:16:11 Another 1xx series to my collection. This one is functioning except for the horizontal on the trackball.
4mb ram and 80mb HD
Traded a bunch of PC parts I needed to get rid of.

Posted by: equill on 2008-12-19 06:16:53 Commiserations. My first PB160 was also defunct horizontally. Removal of the trackball assembly (661-1515), cleaning, cossetting and swearing was to no avail. It was six years until another (NOS) appeared on eBay, for USD0.99 purchase and USD20.00 for shipping. The PB goes like a bewdy with its new trackball assembly, and the temporary loan from a PB180 was restored to its prior home. Good luck to you, anyway. You need a 661-0730, which also fits a the PB160 and friends.

Posted by: Strimkind on 2008-12-19 07:33:27 I turned up the sensitivity of the mouse movement using an external mouse and the horizontal works a little bit now. There is some rust on some sensors of some sort in there. Maybe try and clean them and maybe it will fix that too.
Thank you for that info, I shall keep an eye out for that part.

Posted by: slimac55 on 2008-12-19 13:59:26 I got a PowerBook 145B once for $5 but because I didn't have a power adapter (and the battery was dead), I eventually sold it after it sitting around for a while.

Posted by: Strimkind on 2008-12-19 17:34:05 Too bad. This one came with a power adapter. So I have 2 power adapters for 3 1xx series Powerbooks.

There is some rust on some sensors of some sort in there. Usually the tiny metal rollers get coated with a glue-like mixture of human sweat and household dust. Get in there with a dry cotton ear bud or three and scrape the goop off them until they spin freely and you can see bare metal all the way round.
