TiBook Hinges
Posted by: kb3wmh on 2015-03-20 18:16:09
I just bought a near-pristine (Only one or two paint chips, good hinges) 400 MHz PowerBook G4 for a really good price. I would like to keep it that way. Does anyone have suggestions on how to prevent the hinges from snapping?

Lubricate the hinges helps. I usually remove the two hinges covers, and apply a bit of silicone oil , then put back the hinges.

Also , when opening, don't hold it from front of the screen panel, so not to make a too big lever effect, instead press the release button, and open the screen by holding it from both sides near the hinges. Don't know if that helps much, but I think it put less stress on the hinges… anyway that's how i do.

Where you lift the screen does not change the amount of pressure, it just makes it harder for you to open it since you have less leverage. If there is 2lbs of resistance, there will always be that.
