| Local Prison Computer Drive |
Posted by: MrMacPlus on 2008-11-22 15:03:57 The local prison, in cooperation with a local nonprofit, hosted an electronics recycling drive. Under the hopes of maybe scoring something, I went and volunteered...
Dreams can come true:
-Mac SE FDHD, pristine condition, 6.0.4, 1MB RAM, original power cord, the lady that gave me permission to take it got my phone number and will collect the original manuals for me. 😀
-Box o' shite: A few old processors (486 SX and DX, Pentium 1), tins full of DIPs and SIPs, 30 pin SIMMs, 72-pin SIMMs
-box o' shite 2: Zip disks and zip drive
-Acer keyboard, c. 1993, old style clicky keys, I'm using it right now, works perfectly.
-AppleDesign 'board w/ ADB Mouse II
-AT to PS/2 adapter that I've been looking for for a while.
Now, unfortunately, the supervisor wouldn't let me take anything with a HD in it, as she didn't know what I'd do with the data. The only reason I got the zips and the SE is by asking the original owner. This means I missed out on a Pismo, and a Thinkpad. I also sliced my wrist on a computer, but it was worth it. Let the "I hate you" comments commence!
:b&w:
EDIT: Awww, shame on me! I forgot to mention the TWO unopened boxes of 5.25" floppies and the half used box of 3.5" floppies!

Posted by: slimac55 on 2008-11-22 16:02:18 Good haul. It would have been better with the Pismo though, but still.
|
Posted by: Byrd on 2008-11-22 17:11:24 Offer to take the HD out of the Pismo and Thinkpad (about five minutes work for each)?

JB If that.

Posted by: MrMacPlus on 2008-11-22 19:27:33 No way, no how. They already hauled everything off, they are gonna refurbish some of this stuff, anyway. I doubt they care about the Macs, though, so I don't understand why they didn't let me
|
Posted by: Unknown_K on 2008-11-22 20:16:58 My old university has prisoners rip apart older machines they have and then the parts go to be recycled. Could be that Pismo is pieces parts in a sorter by now.
|
Posted by: MrMacPlus on 2008-11-22 20:25:56 Well, they were gonna have inmates refurbish the proprietary machines (the newer Dell Optiplexes that came in), the CRTs were gonna be scrapped and sold in parts, LCDs wre gonna be repaired, the older machine were probably gonna be brutally ripped into pieces and dissolved in an acid solution so the gold can be spared, G3 included (I'm calling it G3 cause I've never actually seen a Pismo and Wallstreet close up to be able to tell the difference. I now realize that was all one sentence. :]

Posted by: Christopher on 2008-11-22 20:32:44 I call both PowerBooks "PowerBook G3" because they are.

Well, most of the disks worked, but not the Guided tour, oh well. 🙂 I can give you a working Guided Tour disk in a couple weeks. (Remodeled the house; all my gear is stored in boxes under the stairs at the moment.)

Well, most of the disks worked, but not the Guided tour, oh well. 🙂 I can give it to you tomorrow. I backed mine up a day or two ago. :beige:

Posted by: MrMacPlus on 2008-12-01 18:34:41 Thanks Dog Cow, I got the PM.
Many disks were corrupt according to my Mac Plus (the SE has some RAM problem at the moment, It was my accident :I ).
The SE boots fine but has problems with some things, so I made a copy on the SE. The guided tour is screwed. Plus or SE.
