I got a chance to get these two gems for a good price plus an Apple Performa display (meh....) and some Apple Extended II Keyboards. Not bad. Ok, here's the bad news:
They're both REALLY filthy, the Quadra's case was held together by duct tape and it looked like it had MELTED! The 8500 powered up to OS9.1 but looked like it was in the garage with dirt, grime etc.
What's the best way to tackle the machines? Lye and elbow grease? <---joke
I've never really tried rehabilitating machines before, but how do I go about disassembling and cleaning something that has gathered up dustballs the size of golfballs and such? Advice?

I strip all my machines down to nuts and bolts and wash the plastic parts with warm water and dish soap with "oxy" inside (cleans and whitens at the same time). Doing this lets you see if there are any problems with the system (missing parts, shorts, loose screws, hacks, leaking caps, etc) that need attention. I also hate dust bunnies and spider webs so washing takes care of that too.
