7.5.5 - Uhh, what?
Posted by: Gil on 2008-11-11 13:47:04
So I have the Performa 578 in my room, set up with System 7.5.3, upgraded to 7.5.5., Open Transport, etc.. So today I turn it on, it freezes. I restart, and the network does not initialize. I go to set the AppleTalk connection to Ethernet. This also causes the computer to freeze. I restart the computer, this time resetting the PRAM. It boots up, but Open Transport is gone, and has reverted to MacTCP.

How the heck did it do this? What did I do wrong?

To be honest, a lot of weird stuff has been happening with this computer.

It's conceivable that the PRAM battery is dead, but it sounds like you know what you're doing. The clock stays correct?

I guess the network card could also be fried - that might cause the problems.

You could try trashing (but backing up) the Open Transport preferences files.

Get a copy of 7.6 🙂

Seriously I have no clue what's going on there. I would repair the disk using DFA and rebuild the desktop. Also replace the PRAM battery.

Took out the motherboard - There's no PRAM battery there. 8-o

I will have to pick one up. I own 7.6, but I like 7.5.5 better.

That's the low power option. 😛
