Posted by: quinterro on 2008-11-01 14:41:23 My wife out of town for a few days and returned with an HP Pavilion 533w.
2ghz Celeron
768 MB RAM (1x512MB, 1x256MB)
DVD Combo drive
60 GB hard disk
Motherboard with bad capacitors (oh well - no AGP slot anyway)
Working P4 power supply
While it won't boot on its own I should be able to get the P4 2.53ghz system I found to work now that I have enough parts.

nice, but I myself can't stand celerons. That's a pretty broad statement considering how many different architectures have been sold under the Celeron name.
For the past few years, Celerons have been excellent budget processors.

For the past few years, Celerons have been excellent budget processors. I second that. Not a fan of the original Celeron but lately they have been much better chips. I know a lot of people whose opinions of the line have been shaped by the 1990s model of the chip. I was like that myself until I got the chance to try out some new Celeron chips over the past year.
Personally, I think Apple should consider a low-end chip similar to the Celeron for some of the low-end models (like the Mac mini). It would help to keep the costs down and wouldn't hurt low-end users who use their computers for word processing and e-mail.

Posted by: quinterro on 2008-11-01 20:22:21 I have tried a 3.06ghz celeron and it was pertty nice. However it had more L2 cache than this one does.
I don't really have a use for this chip yet - the machine the parts are destined for has a P4 already so I'll put it in my stash for later.
