OpenStep 4.x Disk Images
Posted by: Redjack on 2008-10-30 10:51:48
Hey Folks:

I don't know if this is old news or not but I thought it'd be nifty for all the OpenStep fans. Apple posted at least the boot and install floppy images with instructions on how to make real floppies (using Unix instructions to write the img files to floppy drive) from them. It's not the entire distribution (I could be mistaken) but it's the install and boot images and might be a good start. Maybe we can petition Apple to release the entire OpenStep distribution.

Those disks? Like ten years ago was when Apple put 'em up.

Now that you mention it, is there any way to get a copy of OpenStep 4.x, which could be installed on either vintage hardware or via a virtualizer on a more modern system?

For some time Apple provided free OpenStep and NeXTstep disks in return for a NeXT system serial number but this chance to obtain original installation media is long gone, too.

So eBay and alike might be the only possibility to get hands on these, maybe some NeXT owner can help You at

The best place for NeXT related topics in my peronal opinion.
