A conquest I've been waiting for for two years...

So for nearly two years now, I've been on the prowl for one of those uber-rare (to me, anyway) 16 bit PCMCIA WiFi cards based on the WaveLAN chipset. But one has not been available to me for love nor money. Until now. In exactly 3 days from now, I'm heading to Sydney for a nice well-deserved holiday, and decided to check eBay a few days ago for any goodies that I might be after. Found this wonderful little auction and asked the seller if they will allow pickup, which they do. So I put in a bid yesterday, and won! 🙂 So now when I get home I'll finally be able to put my PowerBook 1400 on my WiFi network, bit of an upgrade from crappy old LocalTalk! 😀 Only problem is that thanks to OS 9 I'll have to downgrade my network from WPA Personal to WEP, ick. :-/ Still, I'm happy. 🙂

Congratulations! It is a real joy to get these older 'books connected wirelessly.

You can crack open old Graphite base stations and get the WaveLAN meat out of them.

Indeed...though Graphite base stations around here are even more scarce than WaveLAN cards.

That's funny. Here in the U.S., the Graphite stations sell for *LESS* than the WaveLAN cards.

Went and picked it up last night, after getting lost in Sydney twice and having to ring the seller for directions! Anyway, thankfully he was really nice and gave me directions to get to his place...god, I felt really dumb, getting lost twice in the same street. *laughs* Anyway, I picked it up last night for the pricely sum of 1 Australian Dollar, and I now have it. It came with everything 'cept the box, and is pretty much in as-new condition. 🙂 Now if only I had a 1400 to test it with. 😛

Oh yeah...and I told my parents where I got it from (eBay)...I think they're amazed that I didn't get ripped off.

Yeah my folks are leery about online purchasing.

Wow that's a real bargain! I think I paid about £7 including postage for my Orinoco Gold card, but that was still quite a lot less than what they usually go for in the UK.
