Power Macintosh G3 All-In-One: Free from school. They gave me an AppleDesign keyboard and power cord with it. It is the 266 MHz model with the Wings AV card and a 4 GB HDD. It also has a two-port USB card.

Posted by: LCGuy on 2008-09-21 20:36:12 Are you sure? I can access the display controls from OS X on my tray loading iMac, so I'd assume that the AIOs are the same...

Posted by: Bunsen on 2008-09-21 21:40:48 Why would you assume that?

Free AIO 8-o That's good? :?: What's wrong with the Power Macintosh G3 AIO? I was actually wanting one ever since I saw them.

Why would you assume that? Well, the G3 AIO was supported by Apple to run Mac OS X, up to Jaguar, so I'd imagine that at least 10.0 - 10.2 would have support for the display controls.

OS X might but don't count on it. the wings card in OS X is basically the same as having the whisper card cause of lack of drivers ot support it, and the AIO's monitor connects to the personality card to get its signal. so many functions do not work in OS X on the Beige G3. you will have to use OS 9 with the display adjusting utility (DAU) http://home.wanadoo.nl/manual.man/dau4_2.sit.bin or display service utility (DSU) ftp://grijan.cjb.net:21000/macintosh/Manuals/displayservutil.sea.bin
even if the Beige G3 was supported in jag, you could really call it semi support. cause not much was supported.

There was no floppy or Wings support but I think everything else worked. on a Beige G3 AIO the monitor is connected to the personality card, the internal Mic is connected to the personality card (which dont work in OS X, but if you plug a external Mic to the Mic jack on the back the internal Mic will work in OS X but not the Mic you plugged in).
the front board with volume button is connected to the personality card does not work in OS X, the 2 front earphone jacks also connected to the personality card do output sound in OS X but do not shut off the internal speakers when earphones are connected.
Video RCA or S-vid in on the wings card does not work in OS X, the video out is said to work (on non AIO systems) if you have no monitor connected and have a TV connected to the S-vid out or the RCA out before power up.
the RCA sound out does work in OS X, not sure about the RCA sound in.
i know cause i have a Beige G3 AIO that ran jaguar for a wile its in my sig. but i installed tiger on it.
