This one is a bit more friendly than the last one I had - still trying to fix that one, but don't care too much.
Anyway, it's a nice old box - 233mhz overclocked to 292, 20gb HD, 768mb RAM, OS 9.2.2, Photoshop 6, USB/FireWire upgrade card.
Not exactly a speed demon, but she's stable and works well for that which I want her(mainly minor photo editing, woo @ 1280x960 res, and a bit of web browsing as well)
Photoshop runs very well with lots o' RAM, the hard drive is fast, boot times are preposterously fast... All in all, very glad of the trade. Currently have a shared 80gb external USB HD hooked up(photo storage and backup)

Nice deal.
| Posted by: chris on 2008-09-16 12:07:33 It's a habit that comes about from working on boats too much.
| Posted by: bluekatt on 2008-09-16 12:49:43 why trade in a imac for a beige ?
course im a os X user so i am naturally rather wary of the beige's
| Posted by: chris on 2008-09-16 17:34:11 Because the beige can take 768mb of RAM, while my iMac could only take 512 (don't have any 512mb sticks, so bleh to people who say it can take 1gb) the proc is faster (500mhz upgrade card in there right now, upclocked to 550) the hard drive is considerably larger (80gb vs 10) and I have no need for OSX, being a Linux man myself and mainly wanting this thing so I can use Photoshop.
Plus there's the additional reason of personal taste - I think the iMac looked entirely too much like a large blue, to be frank, boob. The beige appeals more to my tastes, though silver/black and boxier rather than curvy would be nice (I like the '80s styles; think Walkman)
If you hadn't noticed, I've done some considerable upgrades since yesterday. Tis a great machine now, seems much faster than the iMac, though that might be just because I'm not using OSX on it.
| Posted by: Christopher on 2008-09-16 19:57:30 But the bus speed is 66MHz....
| Posted by: Temetka on 2008-09-16 23:49:11 Oh noes!
It's the end of the world.
On some systems, such as mine, the FSB is 83MHz.
So there.

Tis a great machine now, seems much faster than the iMac, though that might be just because I'm not using OSX on it. in so far i know slot loading imacs can take 1 gig but they can be ..picky not as picky as the tray loaders but stil finnicky
the processor speed is a bit relative the fsb in slot loading imacs is 100 mhz in beige macs its either 66 or 83 mhz
cant argue the hard drive size i only took apart a (dead) tray loader and was unable to put humpty back together again slotloaders might be easier to get in to but i doubt they are friendly
i like to think of G3 imacs as eggs ..suspicious looking egss mind you
actually the only walkman i have is a yellow watertight sports walkman from 1990 (in perfect working order )
but i get what you mean from the sound fo it you'd like the look of the powermac G5
and i have noticed its bene upgraded so no need to be snarky on that point
in the end however its still a beige G3
