My Grape iMac's CRT fails? The screen is rather dim but clear, it was burn in a bit. And it sometimes shows up red, witch I know in LCD's that the backlight is going so something else in the crt is going. I stupidly got rid of my blueberry same spec iMac G3, so I am out of luck if it goes soon.

I only use it like 8 hours two days a week. It sits at my youth group as the OS 9 iTunes box.

When it does fail, you can hook it up to another monitor, or put it's hard disc into a b/w g3 or similarly old G4 tower.

Is the display cable on the inside that connects to the hunk of iMac carry any electricity or just the VGA signal?

Just the VGA signal. I'm assuming you're talking about a tray load iMac.

Ah, that would be my bad. You can hook one of the older Apple monitors up to that port I think, but don't quote me on that.

Yes you can. The port is the old mac standard, so if you want to use VGA you will need an adapter. From what I understand you can get higher resolution out of an external monitor as well.

The only thing is, if you're using an old Apple display, the monitor must be a multisync monitor, ie: a Multiple Scan or AppleVision Display.

If you're using a third party SVGA monitor though, just about any will do, including the ones you see on the side of the road on trash day, or the ones you see for sale for 5 bucks at the local thrift shop. 🙂

Fabulous. I have a mac display to VGA adapter sitting here as we speak. So I could use a standard display.

In the hacks section of applefritter there is a guy who put an iMac into a 21" monitor. I had forgotten all about it untill this thread!
