Centris 650 Power Supply
Posted by: transcorpmla on 2008-08-21 12:09:19
My MS720 17" monitor is starting to show intermittent vertical wavy lines. Could this be the power supply failing?

My computer is a 7600/120. I have a good power supply from a Centris 650 (rarely used). Will it work on my 7600/120 and how do I install it?

No, the power supply from the C650 will not work on your 7600. For example, the 7600 needs a 3.3V line, and the C650 supply does not have a 3.3V line.

The C650 power supply is usable in the IIcx, IIci, IIvi, IIvx, Q700, C650, Q650, and 7100.

You can also use it on the bench to boot up a IIsi or (IIRC) 6100, but, obviously, the PS will not fit in the case of those two machines.

It is possible to adapt a standard ATX power supply made for PCs to use in the 7600, but it would be challenging to find a long narrow one that will fit in the 7600 case.

Search for the word ATX at xlr8yourmac.com and you will find detailed instructions for the conversion.

The 7600 uses the same PS-to-motherboard connector as the 7300, 7500, 8500 and 9500. No other Mac PSs are exactly the same from what I recall, so those are the only conversion articles you want to be reading.
