I recently picked up a Mac IIx with an EtherPort II card, and I can't seem to get ethernet up and running on it. I've tried various things, including getting OpenTransport 1.3 installed, AppleShare Client 3.7.2. I've tried drivers from these two websites:
http://www.mactcp.org.nz/ethernet.html
http://www.3rz.org/mirrors/macdrivermuseum/network.shtml
None of my efforts have gotten ethernet to show up in TCP/IP settings and I was wondering if anyone could give me any pointers. I've consulted a number of websites to assist with this process, but nothing is paying off:
http://www.applefool.com/se30/
http://main.system7today.com/articles/leopard/index.html
It's perhaps worth noting that I have an AUI to RJ45 converter and it seems to be working just fine. My OS is System 7.5.3 (unfortunately 7.6 isn't compatible with the IIx). Does anyone have any alternative suggestions or can point me in the direction of drivers that work better than those already tried? Thanks!
Regards,

| Posted by: techknight on 2015-03-06 17:53:53 Do you have any other Nubus cards to make sure the nubus system is even working?
Well, now that I think about it, the monitor wouldnt work either if it didnt...
I suggest finding a copy of apple system profile, or something similar and see if the machine even sees the card.
Need to make sure the machine knows the existence of the card via the DeclROM. Otherwise everything you are trying is moot.
Ethernet is not showing up becuase the driver isnt loading. the driver not loading could be the result of the DeclROM not present/loaded, or the driver isnt correct for the card's IC.
| Posted by: lopaka1998 on 2015-03-08 16:47:13 You might want to try updating to System 7.5.5. It's a free update, and probably compatible with your iix.
More importantly, have you tried installing this driver?: http://www.vintageapple.org/macdrivers/nic/Shiva_Kinetics_Novell.hqx
My OS is System 7.5.3 (unfortunately 7.6 isn't compatible with the IIx). | Posted by: LazarusNine on 2015-03-08 16:57:17 Hey there, lopaka1998:
Thanks for the response. Yes, I am in total agreement regarding the need for 7.5.5. I had upgraded to that, but with little luck. I've just wiped the HDD and will install a fresh copy of 7.5.3 (and then upgrade to 7.5.5).
I had tried the driver you mentioned - thanks of the link, though! I've also had a couple drivers sent to me by Charlieman (one of which is the driver you've listed). I'll try both following the re-install if the card isn't automatically detected. I'll also keep this thread updated about my progress.

| Posted by: olePigeon on 2015-03-16 08:38:59 Ugh. In my experience with Ethernet cards and vintage Macs, is that I could never get them to work just by installing them. I had to do a clean install of the OS, and make sure to enable any and all networking options, and then remove any unneeded extensions. Only after doing that did it work.
