9600/350 - $3
Posted by: wood_e on 2008-07-30 12:09:45
I found a 9600/350 today at ISU's surplus. I couldn't pass it up for $3, even though it has no RAM or hard drive.

I don't know if it works or not - we shall see.

I have some RAM that *should* work with the 9600. The 8500 uses the same type of RAM IIRC. Nice conquest!

Very good find, fastest CPU too.

Nice. 9600's are great machines.

Here's hoping it works and serves you well.

I'm not talking to you anymore

^ lol!

I opened it up last night - no 350mhz 604e - it's a newertech G3 upgrade :-(

I really wanted that darn 604e!

Not quite. The 8500/9500 use FPM RAM only. The 8600/9600 use FPM or EDO. New EDO RAM is currently half the price of increasingly scarce new FPM 168-pin DRAM.

Admirable conquest, nevertheless. And 604ev CPU or not, you have a Kansas MLB and six PCI slots.

I'll have to check on the EDO RAM.

I loaded 8.5 on a spare HD I had lying around - seems to work fine!

I have a couple of old Mac formatted HD's, dunno if they'll work on your computer though.
