Caddy missing for Quadra 840AV
Posted by: blackswan on 2015-03-01 20:52:27
Hi,

I've bought a Quadra 840AV from eBay, which is in a really good shape. Unfortunately the caddy for the CD-ROM is missing. There are several caddys available at eBay but I'm not sure if there is some kind of standard or if every vendor has its own caddys. For example this one, does it fit: http://r.ebay.com/YRbbtD ?

Cheers,

Blackswan

The link you've provided has expired or something.  Doing a quick ebay search on "vintage caddy" turns up what looks to be what you need.  I'm seeing a bunch of cheap caddies for apple, as well as other brands that look like the exact same thing.  Good luck.

The Apple Service Source document for the 840AV says that the CDROM carrier is Apple Part 922-0850 and it looks like just a plastic tray with a flexing latch on the front.

There's two major caddy styled back then that were commonly used. One that was like a CED cartridge and the cartridge itself had a spine that held the disc, and then there's the CD-CADDY which looks like a modified Magneto Optical disk (note how it still has write protect tabs). Aside from a few oddball vendors that used the former, everyone used CD-CADDY and they're cheap to get.

Here's one for $3.
