| A six pack of Apple IIgs cards |
Posted by: snuci on 2014-09-12 14:05:35 Bought a six pack of random IIgs cards on eBay. http://www.ebay.com/itm/221538578735

I don't believe the seller knew what he had there. Cards look to be in good condition. I'll have to try them out one day.

Great Find!

Transwarp ... awesome. Which is the "best" RAM card there? Transwarp WITH the cache card. The best RAM card there would be how you intend to use it. The CV RAM card is a monster, and he has the piggyback card for a total of 8MBs. He probably has $400 in cards just for those 2, not including the very nice RAM keeper. The RAM Keeper hooks up to a battery (which he doesn't have), and lets him have a RAM Disk that maintains its contents. It's pretty darn sweet.

Posted by: snuci on 2014-09-13 07:36:46 Thanks guys. I also got an Commodore PET Educator 64 yesterday that needs work (and that I probably paid too much for) so I think this will even it out value-wise.
I did do some looking around to see if the Transwarp GS was modified but I don't think it is. Can anyone tell here? Here's a pic.

Posted by: olePigeon on 2014-09-13 08:21:20 Yours looks stock, it has the original crystal and unmodified cache card. I think the upgrade involves getting a new crystal and putting in a faster CPU. If you want to also use the cache card, there're a few modifications to make, such as replacing the ROM with a the latest version and using faster RAM chips.

Posted by: NJRoadfan on 2014-09-13 23:22:39 Beware if you make a cable for your TWGS, the pairs have to be flipped/twisted properly otherwise it won't work and stuff could get fried. It isn't a straight IDC-40 to DIP-40 cable!

To kick up the speed, you need slightly faster cache (15-20ns commonly found on 486 motherboards). you have the latest ROM and the 32k cache card. The CPU needs to be replaced with the Sanyo made WDC 65c816-16. For setting the clock speed, you need crystals that are 4X the target speed ex: 40Mhz crystal runs the card at 10Mhz. Right now the card is running at 6.25Mhz, making it an early TWGS that someone upgraded the cache on. Later cards are clocked at 7Mhz.

Posted by: snuci on 2014-09-14 04:43:42 Thanks guys. I was a little confused about the later ROM on the cache card and the 25mhz crystal that looks like a later add-on because it doesn't really sit onto the card with a correctly sized socket.
I will have to find one of those cables. I actually need to find an Apple IIgs to house these cards because my current IIgs (noted in this conquest) is full. THAT, in my opinion, was a find of a lifetime.
