Upgraded Newton 2000 with extras
Posted by: macgreg on 2008-07-04 01:15:22
Just purchased (off a MacTalk member in Perth) an Apple Newton 2000 MessagePad (upgraded to 2100 specifications).

Included in the bundle were all cables and adapters (including the AA battery tray and a functional rechargeable pack), manuals, original disks, a Silver Orinoco wireless card, a 16MB flash card, a 20MB flash card, an original stylus and a Palm Stowaway keyboard with matching Newton adapter cable (imported from the US apparently).

I already have a 2100 (and a few other Newtons) but this is the best example. It also came with an original Newton wallet to carry it around in!

Nice. I'd love to get a newton to add to my collection. Maybe soon.

Plam pilot keyboards work with Newts? That's interesting. I've always assumed you needed a special one.

You can get Palm pilot keyboards working with Newtons with a special adapter (I think you can buy this or make it yourselft - there are good instructions on the web) and a special driver you can download for the Newton.

FWIW I haven't tried mine yet but there are plenty of people out there who report that it works well. I would have preferred a Newton keyboard but they are not that common in Australia (and the Palm Stowaway keyboard is very cool).

I guess I should post pictures at some point...

Nice unit macgreg - sounds like you got a heap of unexpected parts with it which is always nice.

My 2100 should turn up later this week, looking forward to it. Used to have an MP110 in horrible condition many moons ago so am keen to see what Apple "got right" before canning it 🙂

I'll just have to get a Palm keyboard for it one day, search on ebay for M100 keyboard, I think that's the right unit (or the most common/cheapest).

I loved those Palm keyboards! I was about to buy a USB version from Dealextreme.com, though they were sold out.
