| It's mine, and it's home!!! |
Posted by: MacDan on 2008-06-28 06:31:30 Yesterday, I scored a Desktop G3 and a 20th Anniversary Mac (should I upgrade this one to 9.0 or OS X or leave it as is)!!!
They're coming along with some ram for the iMac and the Beige G3 (tower). Both I have had since Thursday.
Now if I could only find a 333Mhz processor from another "tray loader" for the iMac.
EDIT: The TAM will be home on Monday by 10 A.M.

Posted by: JRL on 2008-06-28 06:48:26 A TAM is a nice find!
Keep the TAM at OS 8.6 and you won't regret it.

Posted by: MrMacintosh on 2008-06-28 10:58:10 How did you score a TAM? That just doesn't happen without a story!
|
Posted by: aphetica on 2008-06-28 11:03:26 Yea, pics and story or it didn't happen.

Posted by: funkytoad on 2008-06-28 12:26:51 How the heck did you get a TAM????
|
Posted by: MacDan on 2008-06-28 14:36:05 Never mind the TAM being upgraded to OS X, I didn't realize that it shipped with 7.5 is it?
Oh yeah...
The kind man who offered it to me is a fellow Mac enthusiast (he's also the kind soul who gave me these).
He thinks its a weird machine and said he was waiting for the right guy to give it to, and he found him (me)! You guys are gonna have to wait till Monday (Wednesday at latest) for pictures of him/her (the TAM) and me.

Posted by: Quadraman on 2008-06-28 16:12:52 No WAY did you score a TAM for FREE. Those things go for thousands on ebay.

Posted by: Cory5412 on 2008-06-28 16:38:47 Wow, that's pretty impressive.
Anyway, my personal recommendation for that TAM is 7.6.1, or BeOS. [😛] ]'> But it always seems like we each prefer something slightly different. BeOS R5 with all of the patches would make a great media player, and it's a very stable system. (without the patches, it gets a bit weird.)

Posted by: aphetica on 2008-06-29 11:43:16 Oh yeah, and if pics are going to be added, you need to crouch down next to it and try to look badass like guys tend to do next to their chrome rims. 😀
Don't lie, all you car guys know you have at least one picture like that.

Posted by: Bunsen on 2008-06-29 15:22:21 Whut?? I go away for a couple of days and people are finding iLamps out with the trash and being handed TAMs. Have we all died and gone to Mac heaven?

No WAY did you score a TAM for FREE. Those things go for thousands on ebay. Not so fast! Some people are indeed willing to give these away. Granted, it's not an everyday occurrence, but neither is it impossible. One of my TAMs was essentially free as well. Around here, in Sillycon Valley, there are some folks who do not attach much value to older computers.

Posted by: Temetka on 2008-06-30 16:18:08 So MacDan, whereabouts do you live?
Also do you have any noticeable patterns in your behaviour that would be noticed by others if it were to change?
And finally what sort of security setup do you have at your house? Never can be too safe ya know.

Me with TAM.
. You've obviously photoshoped your head onto some real TAM owner's body. Stop the lies!

I didn't even know what C++ was until two days ago. If you're ever in Southern California (and anywhere near La Puente) you are welcomed to stop by our little home and see the TAM for yourself. Good day sir.

And finally what sort of security setup do you have at your house? Never can be too safe ya know. I live in La Puente, California ( I see you're in California, also). I wonder if any of us Cali-based Classic Mac collectors and users can ever get together and have a chat or something to show off our gear.
Yes, I'm a nice person most of the time, but I can be a real @!%$ when it comes to guarding my belongings.
I have grown closer to my AK-74 (it's an airsoft (bb) gun, I kinda wish we had an AK-47 at this moment).
For real security we only have a crabby, lazy rabbit who won't even chase after you. (I want to hire a security team armed with AK-47's and a grenade or two).
Don't even think about it pal. }🙂

Around here, in Sillycon Valley, there are some folks who do not attach much value to older computers. I have to say that is true. (I've heard from sources). The kind man who offered it to me said that he fired it up only once and found nothing special about it, except for it being fancy.
