Word 2001
Posted by: beachycove on 2008-06-19 17:39:53
The minimum specs listed for MS Word 2001 are a 120MHz ppc and OS8.1.

Would it install and run on a mere 100MHz PowerBook Duo 2300c, under OS8.6, with 56MB ram? I'm wondering if I should go through the bother of trying.

Any thoughts?

Any thoughts?
What are your goals?

It'll be fine (tried Office 2001 on my PB 5300c 100Mhz), you might find office 98 to be even better though 🙂

Yeah, I ran Office 2001 on a Duo 2300c with 56 MB of RAM just fine. I think I was running Mac OS 9.1 at the time. (I used that machine as a primary notebook for about 3 months between selling my PC notebook and getting my 12" PowerBook G4.)

Thanks. I want the PB 2300c for portability, and Word 2001 for compatibility.

By way of tinkering, I am going to try running it from a 4GB CF card instead of a hard drive.

As others said, it'll be fine - when my 8100/80AV still worked, I ran Office 2001 on it, and it was fine. Currently I have it installed on my Performa "6260", which has a 100 Mhz PPC 603e, and its fine.

It is surprisingly snappy on the Duo with a 4GB CF disk! Start-up takes a while, but its speed in use is excellent. I am impressed.

Ram Doubler 9 and Speed Doubler 8 are installed, however, and this might be helping matters along.
