| Red Power Macintosh 5500 |
Posted by: Ryan on 2008-06-14 20:03:15 Found this bizarre custom red Power Macintosh 5500 in the trash on my block. Pretty decent paint job, and the big stenciled apple is a nice touch. Doesn't seem to turn on, but a pretty good conversation piece nonetheless.

Also managed to score a working Macintosh Monochrome 12" display and crapload of ADB mice, two of which are painted in equally crazy colors.

Something tells me that this was done without removing the case and somehow the spray paint might have gotten into the grills on the top back, which might explain why it doesn't work. Of course, it could also be a number of other things but from the way it looks I can only assume the former.
Still, it's a nice score overall. Congrats. 🙂

Or is the black apple stencilled over the red paint? It looks stenciled over.

Posted by: Ryan on 2008-06-15 18:56:07 There's not much drip on the grill; I'm not exactly sure how that was achieved - I agree that it seems like it was done without removing the case.
I ran into the original owner on the street the other day, and apparently it had worked up until recently (it was modded shortly after purchase - as he says, "that was how we made computers look cool in the days before the iMac"). I should have thought to ask him how he painted it. After a very rudimentary attempt to troubleshoot, I think that the problem has something to do with the power supply.
I'll try and get a pic up of the mice soon - they work fine, and are pretty funny looking, painted kind of in the manner of a 1990s squirt gun...
