I love the recycling centre

Just in case you guys don't believe me, I took pictures this time and put 'em on my Flickr.

This here is a large box full of PowerBooks. There are several 500 Series, 5300 Series, and some 1xx machines in there. It's like 80lbs worth of computery goodness. Plus, there's a Digital HiNote in there, too. Why the HiNote? Because DEC always made good hardware, even when it was x86.

They're not all perfect, but the ones with not pretty cases will be good for parts.

If I have time, I might test some and put 'em up for sale on here, as I don't need 400 PowerBook 540s. No power adapters, though; that's one of the things we don't end up getting out there, and some may not have hard drives. The U of I tends to take a drill press to most hard drives they send out there, which is kinda sad.

Then there's this. We have:

PM G4 Gig E, with a DP 500MHz setup.

Performa 460, aka LC III+.

HD 20, may or may not work.

Many CD/DVD drives, hard drives, SCSI cards, RAM modules, and little fans. Also a USB Zip drive; its power supply is in with the Big Box 'o 'Books.

I also found a 400MHz Sawtooth (finally!), but it's not in the picture 'cause it's having software installed. Now I have all of the G4 towers up to and including the DigAudio line.

Wow, that's an excellent haul! It's always worth having a good scout around tips, (or recycling centres), as these days they can often hold computery treasures.

Recycling centers here are usually privately owned and run by assholes 🙁

There's more than one out there, but I've already got one of each of the types available, so I just took the one. Most of this stuff comes from the educational institutions in the surrounding area, and the college is pretty well funded, so they change stuff out pretty often.

They're already getting a few MacBooks and stuff out there, though most are in pieces. No G5s yet, though. There's an Amiga 2000 out there that I might get, along with a PC/XT. More toys than I could ever handle.

The place is privately owned, but I work there for a few hours, and instead of getting cash, I get Macs and whatever random junk they were just gonna toss. It's a sweet deal. Better than eBay, anyway.

Oh My God... TO THE YELLOW PAGES! I really need to check these places out, if only they weren't in town...
