| "Unsupported" Quantum ProDrive 40S |
Posted by: raoulduke on 2015-02-22 21:20:02 The 40S slowly starts to spin, there are a few short bursts of reading for a system folder.
When I popped in a 7.6 disk tools disk, Drive Setup says the drive is "unsupported" and prevents initialization. SCSI Probe detects it but can't mount it. Patched HD SC fails to find a suitable drive. And Disk First Aid only detects the floppy drive. [None of this changes, except the additional recognition in SCSI Probe, when I replace the CD drive midway in the chain.]
The current jumper settings are EP (enable parity) per the preset, and I put a jumper on A0 after the third or fourth attempt - no effect. Any thoughts?

Posted by: raoulduke on 2015-02-23 10:43:17 I don't know what those are but I will.

Posted by: Gorgonops on 2015-02-23 13:50:03 Try disabling Parity.
By any chance, do you know what sort of system the drive was pulled from?

Posted by: raoulduke on 2015-02-23 13:57:23 SE/30. I pulled it.

Posted by: Gorgonops on 2015-02-23 14:03:14 Oh. My assumption is you'd gotten this known-working from somewhere and were having trouble making a Mac recognize it. If it was already installed in the SE/30 I'd guess it's just broken.

Posted by: raoulduke on 2015-03-01 20:36:51 Disabling parity had no effect. I'll try the utilities mentioned next.
Gorgonops, my first thought was also that it was just broken, except it spins and is recognized. I know nothing of the SE/30's history or condition from before I pulled it.
