AWGS95 from ebay
Posted by: Bolle on 2008-05-22 06:21:30
got this from ebay the other day. it has 64MB of RAM (all 4MBers :/ ) two dead HDDs (still have to test them again) and a DAT streamer built in.

The WGS card has all cache upgrades on it.

I didnt remember these things to be that LOUD! the 120mm fan really pushes some air around :O - BTW were "normal" Q950s that loud, too? or was apple like "dis goin 2 servur room so who cares..."?

strangely one side of the case is still in original color and the other one is yellowed.

Nice. Going to run A/UX or rip the PDS card out and use normal mac OS?

Posted by: Bolle on 2008-05-22 11:05:52
cant really decide what to do... running A/UX would be way more authentical btu Im not taht well informed in UNIX things so I wont be able to do that much with A/UX... maybe Im going to throw in a PPC upgrade and maybe i just leave the WGS card in palce and dual boot MacOS and A/UX.

and yes it does run the Mac OS with the card in place. I know its supposed not tot run but it does. Mac OS even boots fine from the SCSI Bus on the card.

That PDS card, will it work in other Quadras?

I'm getting one tomorrow, as it happens...

it should work i think... but you wont be able to close the case of the quadra anymore when you stick it into anything that is not a 900 or 950.

The best thing about that card is that it has the full complement of now ultra-rare cache memory simms installed (512K, as I recall). Well done.
