Quadra 700 not booting
Posted by: paws on 2008-04-07 14:51:13
I've got a Quadra 700.

I've got a 3.5" SCSI 500MB hard drive that I formatted with my LC III and put a System 7.6 System Folder on. The LC sees it fine when I put it in an enclosure.

When I put the HD in the Quadra the Quadra just boots to a blank grey screen. No blinking question mark, nothing.

I've tried booting it from the System 7 Today boot floppy which works fine, but the Drive Setup application on that does not see the HD, it just sits there, spinning beach ball of doom, Tiger-style 😉

Does that mean my Quadra is ripe for a case mod, or is there something I'm missing? Is this a SCSI ID thing, maybe? It occurred to me that that might be it - a conflict of some sort? - but I can't test it right now, as there's a guest asleep in my play room..

Any ideas, though? Zap PRAM, repair permissions, sacrifice to $DEITY?

I've had the same sort of problem recently and the cause was SCSI ID conflicts. If you have any other SCSI devices on the same bus check the ID's.
