| A few compact/laptop conquests |
Posted by: Unknown_K on 2008-04-03 12:38:12 The last month has been interesting.
3 Powerbook G3s Wallstreets (12", 13", 14" LCD) all working (1 battery, 1 20x cdrom, 1 floppy drive) all free (I had to buy a HD for one and a power adapter).
A SE (800K drive), SE/30 (case missing the MB which I had plus ethernet), and yesterday a SE/30 with 128MB RAM and ethernet. All were free.

All great conquests, especially the maxed SE/30!

Posted by: Anonymous Freak on 2008-04-03 13:50:52 Yeah, I found it amazing that a computer from 1989 (SE/30,) could be loaded with more RAM that came stock in some of Apple's computers through 2002. (The lowest end iMac in early 2002 still came with only 64 MB RAM.)
Heck, they made computers as late as 1998 that couldn't even have 128 MB as their max. (PowerBook 2400c, which topped out at 112 MB.)

Posted by: Temetka on 2008-04-03 20:56:41 Yeah, but what could you really do with System 6 that would take advantage of it?
128MB is awesome, and the 68K CPU is awesome. Still I doubt the merits of putting that much RAM in a machine such as that.

I'd go for A/UX on there, especially if you can get it working with the ethernet card.

Posted by: Unknown_K on 2008-04-03 23:41:35 128MB is a bit overkill, my other SE/30 has 32MB and thats decent for a slow 030.
I think my 950's are going to gang up on the maxed SE/30 and take its RAM while I am away from the lab 😉
Would be cool if I found a daystar adapter so I could use a Turbo 040 and networking at the same time.

Yeah, but what could you really do with System 6 that would take advantage of it? Nothing. Nothing at all. System 6 is only 24-bit, so it maxes out at 8 MB of RAM that it can use.
