| Buffalo WLIPCML11GP - PCMCIA Wifi card |
Posted by: raoulduke on 2015-02-11 17:44:23 I just ordered one of these http://site2.buffalotech.com/downloads/WLIPCML11GP_datasheet.pdf. Both on this page and on another list (from the manufacturer), they explicitly claim it works with OS 8 - I assume 8.6. However, their site seems to no longer host the drivers. I can contact them, but does anyone happen to have them/know where to find them?

Posted by: olePigeon on 2015-02-12 10:28:32 I tried Googling and couldn't find anything.

Posted by: Compgeke on 2015-02-12 11:23:12 It says Lucent\Agere so it's probably WaveLAN based.
On the bottom of this page you can find the Orinoco (\Lucent\Agere) drivers, I would give them a try when you get the card.

Posted by: raoulduke on 2015-02-12 12:04:49 Thanks. I found that page earlier today.
I actually have Wavelan silver (Newton) and tried to use the orinoco 6 driver. .. how do you open the file after expanding it. ..?

Posted by: raoulduke on 2015-02-12 14:54:52 Okay. At least for me, the Alksoft file is corrupt (and Alksoft, by the way, for 5300 users - it's an incredible site).
However, a comment to the now defunct wavelan.com ftp site notes another file name that led me to this working installer: http://download.modem-help.co.uk/mfcs-A/Agere/Drivers/ORiNOCO/wavelan/software/ORiNOCO/PC-Card/MacOS/MacOS-63.bin.7z.php?showFile=
However... and in my case a terminal however... the installer requires 32 mb of RAM.

Posted by: raoulduke on 2015-02-12 15:57:30 However, the WaveLAN drivers install:

Posted by: raoulduke on 2015-02-19 07:59:44 The WaveLAN drivers don't work. I don't know if I can get Orinoco to install.
|
Posted by: Bunsen on 2015-02-26 01:51:18 Try boosting your virtual memory over 32MB.

Posted by: raoulduke on 2015-03-23 14:39:58 Hey I never saw this reply. The Buffalo card works with standard Orinoco drivers, but as Bunsen was I think touching on, the lowest-level Orinoco driver I could find (which I think is 6.3) cannot be installed with under 32mb of RAM. I don't know if it can be run with less than that - it might work with 24mb (which is what I had the time) because that will run 8.6 - which is the minimum requirement for Orinoco 6.3 as far as I can tell.

Posted by: rsolberg on 2015-03-25 17:11:43 I have half a dozen different systems on my Wallstreet 292, but 8.6 is my favourite. I copied the Airport control panel (and TCP/IP IIRC) from 9.2.2 and my Orinoco Silver works perfectly under 8.6. I have my doubts if Airport will work earlier than 8.6, but it might be worth a try.

Posted by: raoulduke on 2015-04-24 12:51:27 Interesting. I just saw this, sorry. The problem is I don't think the Buffalo uses Orinoco drivers (I tried it on the Kanga with 9.0.4 - but not 9.2.2). I'll let you know.

Posted by: Paralel on 2015-04-24 17:09:07 Any system based off of the WaveLAN chips, I can flash to a WaveLAN Gold, whatever version of firmware you want.

Posted by: raoulduke on 2015-04-24 17:47:16 Wait maybe I'm misremembering. I have a bunch of cards, including two Wavelans. I have one that's like an Aironet that I haven't gotten to work. Maybe I'm totally misremembering and the Buffalo is the one I've been using with Orinoco drivers.
|
Posted by: raoulduke on 2015-04-25 14:24:57 I was. Apologies. Earlier Wavelan drivers might not work with Buffalo. I can't remember. Orinoco drivers do.
