LC II to hold me over

Well since I'm I'm the middle of getting my collection back up and running I figured I would pick up a little LC II off eBay. And yes I'm running SoftPC there which is a little painful but interesting at the same time.

Nice find! 🙂 Never heard of SoftPC, what does it do?

SoftPC is like VirtualPC. Both are DOS emulators where one can run Windows on top, maybe. 🙂

Ah, gotcha. 🙂 Might have to look into a program like that, been curious about Windows 1 through 3.x lately.

Well I can tell you this version is probably not the one you want to use.  I believe it is only emulating like a 286.  I mostly just installed it to see if I could get it to run with only having 4mb of ram in my LC along with about 20mb of free hard disk space.

Soft PC and VirtualPC can go up to Windows 98/NT and if you push it ME/2000 on a 603e PPC or fast 68040. The issue is you need a lot of RAM, the more RAM the fast it will run.

But an LCII? It would make a great DOS Box. You just want to up the RAM to the Max on the LC. If you emulate EGA Graphics, there were a lot of great DOS Games. And of you can find it, VisiCalc was made public domain a few years ago.
