G3 powerbook wifi question.
Posted by: Patnukem on 2008-02-22 01:48:14
What cards work the best with old g3 powerbooks (wallstreet/lombard)? I saw there are WG511T that work but do all the model WG511T work or just some. I hate trying to get the right chip set etcetera. I tried looking for a list and can not find one. I would like one that worked for os x as airport (not the ioxperts driver ones, I do not wish to pay $20 on top of my card) and would also work well with os 9. Any help would be great.

on my Wallstreet, I have a MacSense AeroCard Plus. Works in MacOS9 and Mac OS X with MacSense's own drivers, and the fellow who sent it to me had it working on the WS with Linux, too. That's about everything covered!

Its model number is WPE-700, too.

Only the WaveLAN chipset cards work in OS 9 as "AirPort PC Cards." In OS X, only Broadcom chipset cards work as AirPort PC Cards. Consequently, no single card is supported by Apple in OS 9 and OS X. You'll either have to swap cards when you reboot or use a 3rd party driver.

Peace,

Drew
