Wish me luck!!!! (maybe Apple TechStep)
Posted by: LCGuy on 2008-02-18 11:38:17
On the intarweb somewhere, there is a TechStep for sale. Anyway, normally I wouldn't do this, I'd just have to grin and bear it, but since it is for a rare Apple TechStep, one of my personal "Holy Grail" items, I'm going to try and get PAF approval to get it, so wish me luck!

Since this is for a rare Apple TechStep, I'm not going to say who's offering it for sale or where, or how much I'm offering for it until I find out if its a hit or a miss, and if anyone finds it, I'd like to ask for you to not post the URL here. Feel free to make an offer, I'm not going to stop you, but please just don't put the URL here until I find out if this is a success or failure...I've been after a TechStep for years, so there's no way in Hell i'm going to do that, I'm afraid.

Either way, wish me luck!

Asked the parents, so far Operation TechStep is officially GO for launch. I've put in my offer, and we'll see how we go I guess.

For the record, if anyone does post the URL in this thread before the offer is finished, I reserve the right to edit it out of your post 😛

I saw this too and was tempted - good luck with the auction!

Well, Operation TechStep has faltered, I've been outbidded.

Best of luck Byrd 🙂 I've given up...if anyone gets it, I hope its you.

I too have seen the auction. I am sorry to hear of your loss LCGuy. I hope you will have a chance at another one someday soon. :beige:

It wasn't the eBay one, it was on a forum, if you're curious.

I've bookmarked that eBay auction though. We'll see what happens I guess.

And its not really "my loss", since I never had it in the first place 😉

Sorry to be bidding against you LCGuy - mate I hate this sort of stuff. Don't think it's mine either, would have been something I'd fire up all the time to test my old machines. Seemed like the ultimate Mac diagnostic device for it's era!

Don't think it's worth much though if you can't use it on anything apart from early compact and early II-series machines though.

I have one...

To soothe your pain a bit... Let me tell you that it is a bit overrated...

It's neat, but it's more of a hack...

How much did it go for ?

Don't worry about it. 🙂 Sorry to hear that you seem to have lost too...I'm not a great fan of that sort of thing either, oh well. I would've bidded higher, just that $80+p&h is all I can really afford at this time.

Anyway, you may remember this Byrd, dunno if others will, but for a while (2001 -> 2002), i was freelancing at an AASP, who had a TechStep. They wouldn't sell it to me, but they were more than happy to let me borrow it for weekends and stuff. This was back in 2002. It was complete, had the bag, disks and everything, as well as several ROM packs. One was for testing SCSI HDDs, then there were assorted ROM packs for testing all the Compact Macs (apart from the CC and CCII), Mac II, IIx, IIcx, IIci, IIfx, IIsi), IIvx/IIvi/Performa 600, LC, LCII, and I think PowerBook 100. Apparently, there were optional ROM packs available which could test the LCIII, Quadras, and 1xx series PowerBooks, as well as the Colour Classic and Colour Classic II, but I've never heard of them actually existing.

Moofo, yeah, I have used one, even had it hooked up to my machines, as I've just said, and its actually pretty cool, IMHO.

ATM its currently at $100.

Glad you got it. I was going to bid on it but I did not get home in time. I would have hated to start a bidding war with another member.

I have the TechStep software if you're in need of it. This disk is hard to track down so... here you go! 😀
