Posted by: krfkeith on 2008-01-28 05:46:33 Well ok, I finally have aquired a IIc plus (its on its way here). So I was wondering, how far fetch'd is it to build a portable IIc? Is the mobo very big? I was thinking maybe I could mod it into an older non functional PowerBook.

Posted by: magnusfalkirk on 2008-01-28 06:30:32 About the best thing you can do to make the IIc+ portable would be to add a Playstation LCD screen to it, like I did with my original IIc. You can see pictures of it here: http://blackfletch.freeservers.com/appleIIc.htm
I need to add some more pictures I've taken that show the back of the LCD and where the power and composite video from the IIc plug into it.

Posted by: Patnukem on 2008-01-28 07:41:19 I was going to put a headless 12" PB in one for the macmod competition but used a IIe instead since I have a bazillion of them. I would be curious how this will go. The only cool thing I liked about my macmod project was my external cd drive I made with a Disk ][ drive, the latch that comes down actually sets the magnet on top of the cd and sets the cd in there properly.

I was thinking maybe I could mod it into an older non functional PowerBook. I would say a IIgs mobo would be a better candidate for a portable for a number of reasons... it has ADB and I believe some of the older PB keyboards are ADB compatible. Also it has all the expansion slots, so you could include a CF drive instead of the bulky floppy drive.
Also the IIgs is really common, whereas the IIc+ is relatively rare (which didn't stop me painting mine).

Posted by: Quadraman on 2008-01-28 12:25:29 There was a battery pack and small LCD screen available for the IIc, both of which are considered treasured finds today if you can lay your hands on either one.

There was a battery pack and small LCD screen available for the IIc, both of which are considered treasured finds today if you can lay your hands on either one. I remember seeing one battery pack that was essentially a soft-shell case for the IIc with room for a small car battery...
FWIW, the battery packs for the IIc won't work with the IIc+ because it has a built-in PSU.

Posted by: krfkeith on 2008-01-28 13:50:39 Well, I'm looking at buying a IIgs ROM03 motherboard (anyone have one?) so I can just use my old ROM01 motheboard, once I perform the upgrade.

http://www.obsoletecomputermuseum.org/appleiic/batteries.jpg That's not the battery pack I was thinking of. The one I was thinking of hangs off the back of the IIc so you can transport the computer, screen and battery as a single unit. I'll search and see if I can find pictures.
